In today's globalized world, knowing more than one language is a real asset. Whatever your goal – to improve your fluency in a second language or to start learning a new language, simply for your own enjoyment or for professional reasons – having a guide as you make your way through this educational process is essential. Distance learning means ,our students can attend every class, wherever they are – on a business trip, in the office, at home or on vacation – since all they need is Internet access. We can also teach courses on your company premises, for employees wishing to improve their knowledge of a second language in the workplace. Group courses, taught in a classroom setting, are also available for those who prefer to learn in the company of other students.

The advent of new technology has made it easier than ever to improve your language skills in your own home or office. Videoconferencing has transformed the way we learn a foreign language. It’s now easy for students to interact directly with a qualified instructor, in real time. In a videoconference session, the teacher corrects the learner’s mistakes instantly, so he or she does not repeat those errors. Another practical feature is screen sharing, which makes grammar easier to explain. Homework – intended to build on what was learned in the session – is sent by email, so it can be done at the same computer and sent back to the instructor before the next class. What a great way to be environmentally responsible, while saving both time and money!

STEP-BY-STEP LEARNING

If a language could be learned in just a few hours, everyone would be multilingual. The thing to understand is that a language is taught in stages. If a student feels like his/her skills are not improving, despite the efforts put into studying the language, the reason is likely that he/she has plateaued. Students who think they have plateaued tend to get discouraged and stop learning – at the exact moment when they need to redouble their efforts, to move to the next plateau.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MOVE UP A LEVEL?

In concrete terms, moving from one level to the next depends on three things: the individual, the time he/she puts into studying the language outside of class and his/her workplace setting (are English learners in an English-speaking environment?). No two learners will advance at the same pace.
A VARIETY OF RESOURCES

A few different types of learning channels are used to become fluent in a second language:
- Structured instruction, with a qualified teacher as a guide (weekly)
- Exposure to the language being studied, through television (with no sub-titles), radio and podcasts (daily)
- Unilingual reading, with texts of gradually increasing difficulty (daily)
- Reviewing grammar and written exercises (weekly)

TESTIMONIALS

“I thank myself to this day for calling Bilangues – it was one of the best decisions of my life! I’m so pleased when my clients say to me: ‘Hey, your English is pretty good! What happened?’” Andrée Morin, Operations, Groupe Action (Transport).

“My son has been taking English classes at Bilangues for almost 5 years now. He comes out of class with a big smile on his face. We have also signed him up for their French classes. What it comes down to is, I really like the fact that they listen and adapt the instruction to my child’s needs, as well as their flexibility and efficiency. We always get results with a smile, and have a lot of fun along the way.” Annie Desjardins, Director, Aqua Terra Travel.
